Make the text in a PDF editable again
PDF is a format designed not to be changed — which is a good thing, right up until the only copy of a document you need to update is a PDF. This tool extracts the text layer from your file and writes it into an editable Word (`.docx`) document.
It runs in your browser. You do not have to upload a contract, a report or an HR document to a conversion site; the file never leaves your device.
You stay in control on long documents
Extracting a hundred-page document shows a progress indicator, and you can cancel at any point. The extracted text is previewed on screen before you download, so you find out whether the document was read correctly without saving a file first.
One important limitation: the tool reads text that is in the PDF, not text that is in a picture. If your document is a scan — pages that are really just photographs — there is no text layer to extract and the result comes back empty. You will see that immediately in the preview.
How to convert a PDF to an editable Word document
Step 1: Upload the PDF
Drag in the file you want to convert.
Step 2: Start the extraction
Press run. Pages are processed in order; on long documents you can watch the progress and stop it if you need to.
Step 3: Read the preview
Check the extracted text on screen. If it comes back empty, your document is made of scanned images.
Step 4: Download as Word
Save the `.docx` and continue editing in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my scanned PDF come out empty?
In a scanned document the pages are images; there is no machine-readable text inside them. This tool reads text, it does not recognise letters in a picture. For that you need a tool with OCR.
Is the page layout preserved exactly?
No — what transfers is the text itself. Column layouts, precise positioning and complex tables will look different in Word. The goal is to make the wording editable again, not to produce a visual clone of the PDF.
Can it open password-protected PDFs?
Files that need a password to open cannot be read. Open the document in a program where you know the password and save an unprotected copy first.
Is my document uploaded?
No. All the parsing happens in your browser; the PDF is never sent to a server.
Can I stop a long extraction?
Yes. Cancel at any point and the text extracted so far stays on screen — you can download that if it is enough.
